Why it stands out
Exact grouping mechanics with more ways to keep playing.
Categories is useful beyond being another close copy because it exposes several kinds of replay in one place: previous daily boards, themed packs, a puzzle creator and community submissions.
Best for
- Connections players who want another exact sixteen-word grouping board.
- Groups that want archives, themed packs or player-made puzzles after the daily solve.
Think twice if
- Players looking for a different mechanic rather than another four-by-four partition.
Categories is a close mechanical substitute for Connections: the board starts with sixteen terms and asks for four groups of four. Its practical difference is replay. The official interface links to earlier puzzles, themed packs, a creator and community-made boards, so one daily solve does not have to end the session.
The format still carries the same ambiguity risk as any grouping puzzle. A plausible connection may be a decoy, and community boards can vary in clue style. Choose it for more of the exact partitioning task, not for a fundamentally different kind of deduction.
How to play
- Select four words that you believe share one category.
- Submit the group; a correct set clears from the board, while a miss costs one of four lives.
- Finish all four groups, or open the archive, a themed pack or a community-made puzzle.
