Verified round model

How a round of Numgrove works.

Objective, input, feedback and stopping condition checked 3 October 2026.

Objective

Fill every empty circle so each parent matches its two children under the displayed operation.

Your move

Select a number from the tray, then select an empty circle, or drag the number onto it.

What changes

Placed numbers fill the tree; progress counts filled circles, and the tutorial confirms completed arithmetic relationships.

Round end

A tree is complete when every circle is filled and all branch arithmetic constraints are satisfied.

Why it stands out

Check both the arithmetic and the remaining numbers.

Numgrove makes each placement part of overlapping arithmetic constraints. A pair that fits one parent must also leave enough of the supplied numbers to complete the other branches.

Best for

  • Solvers who enjoy allocating a limited set of numbers across branches.
  • Players who prefer visual constraints to typed vocabulary guesses.

Think twice if

  • Players who want a trivia or image-recognition challenge.

Check the operation at each branch

Numgrove supplies numbers for the empty circles of a tree. Each parent must equal its two children combined using the operation shown at that branch. A multiplication branch needs a product; an addition branch needs a sum. The top value constrains the branches below it, but every lower relationship must also work.

The official selector offers three levels. Seedling has three rows and multiplication only. Sapling keeps three rows and adds mixed operations; Ironwood expands to four rows with both addition and multiplication. Do not assume every level is a factor tree.

From the creator

Abdul Babil submitted Numgrove on September 29 as a free daily browser math puzzle that needs no account. He describes its central idea as growing a factor tree toward a target number. The current game also includes addition in its mixed-operation levels, so this guide uses the broader term number tree. The public home screen credits CraftOfTech; Abdul’s creator attribution comes from an explicit Creator field in his submission, not email sender metadata.

Preserve the remaining number supply

Tap a number, then a circle, or drag it into place. When evaluating a pair, check both its arithmetic and which numbers it leaves for the other side of the tree. Repeated values are separate supplied tiles, so count their available copies instead of assuming a value can be reused freely.

The tutorial was completed with a sum at the top and a product below it. The checked daily Seedling board then loaded target 80, six empty circles and six supplied numbers. The daily tree itself was not completed. The selector showed a daily refresh countdown, but its reset timezone was not independently established.

The public home screen credits CraftOfTech. Anonymous access required no payment, and optional analytics could be declined. Saved-history behavior, leaderboards and touch controls were not tested.

How to play

  1. Choose a difficulty and enter its daily tree.
  2. Read the addition or multiplication symbol under each parent.
  3. Select a supplied number and place it into an empty circle.
  4. Fill the tree while keeping every parent-child relationship consistent.

Before you play

Questions before you play.

What is the goal in Numgrove?
Fill every empty circle so each parent matches its two children under the displayed operation. A tree is complete when every circle is filled and all branch arithmetic constraints are satisfied.
Can you play Numgrove without an account?
The checked daily browser board and interaction were available without an account or upfront payment.
