Verified round model

How a round of Sixteen Wings works.

Objective, input, feedback and stopping condition checked 8 September 2026.

Objective

Complete the shared daily flight by launching, reaching and striking the target, then landing with the best score possible.

Your move

Use keyboard, touch, or gamepad flight controls to manage thrust and attitude, release the bomb, and fly the landing approach.

What changes

The flight exposes fuel, hazards, target and landing state; the final card records hit quality, remaining fuel, landing quality, difficulty, and score.

Round end

The sortie ends after the aircraft is lost or the landing resolves; the daily result is scored on a ladder separate from the campaign records.

Why it stands out

Every extra second aloft is borrowed from the landing.

Sixteen Wings turns one daily seed into a three-stage flight. Launch speed affects fuel, the attack line controls bomb lead, and damage carries into the landing. A shared seed makes those tradeoffs comparable across players.

Best for

  • Players who want a repeatable daily score challenge built around timing and vehicle control.
  • Solvers bored with guessing games who still value one globally comparable attempt.

Think twice if

  • Players who need a turn-based puzzle that can be paused between decisions.
  • Anyone uncomfortable with fictional military aircraft and bombing imagery.

Keep fuel for the return

Plan through the landing before adding power. The aircraft still has to leave the target area, settle onto the approach, and reach the strip. Fuel spent on a messy launch or an unnecessary correction is unavailable for that work.

Use a shallow, stable climb to leave room for avoiding the fixed hazards and to make the attack approach easier to read.

Four phases, four decisions

Phase Decision
Launch Build enough speed to clear the deck under control.
Transit Hold a stable line through the day’s fixed threats.
Attack Release ahead of the target to allow for forward momentum.
Return Protect the airframe and arrive with fuel for the approach.

Extra launch time reduces the fuel available for landing; damage on the crossing may force a safer attack line.

Release before the target

The official page explains that a released bomb keeps the aircraft’s forward momentum. A drop made directly above the target lands long. Keep the approach speed and altitude consistent, then adjust the release point on the next run.

Weather and threats may make the cleanest attack line too expensive. The result card scores bombing, fuel, airframe, landing, and launch separately, so a safe return can recover points lost on the attack.

Compare the same difficulty

Assist handles parts of launch and landing on its own ladder. Standard and Veteran ask for different levels of control and threat management. Compare Daily Sortie scores within one difficulty, then use the five-part breakdown to choose what to change on the next flight.

How to play

  1. Build speed along the carrier deck and rotate before the runway ends.
  2. Cross the water through the day’s fixed threats, then release the bomb ahead of the target to account for forward momentum.
  3. Preserve enough fuel and control to reach the landing strip, complete the approach, and compare the resulting score.

Before you play

Questions before you play.

What changes in the Sixteen Wings Daily Sortie?
The aircraft, target, threats, weather, and other seeded conditions are identical for everyone that day and change at midnight UTC.
Can Sixteen Wings be played in a browser?
Yes. The official itch.io page embeds the HTML5 game and documents keyboard, touch, and gamepad controls.
Does Sixteen Wings require an itch.io account?
No. The embedded game opens anonymously; itch.io asks for login only for platform actions such as commenting or following.
Is the Daily Sortie score part of the campaign ranking?
No. The developer says the daily flight uses its own ladder and does not alter campaign records.
