Verified round model

How a round of Tally works.

Objective, input, feedback and stopping condition checked 21 September 2026.

Objective

Connect the highlighted endpoints with a legal path whose visited numbers produce the highest possible total.

Your move

Draw a path through horizontally or vertically adjacent cells without revisiting any cell, then press Submit.

What changes

Current shows the path total; submitted routes update Tries, Best, and Best percentage against the optimal score.

Round end

A route can be submitted after connecting the endpoints. Further attempts can improve the best result until you settle on a score; revealing the answer or reaching Perfect locks the shareable score.

Why it stands out

Check the total of a detour before drawing the path.

A negative cell may be worth crossing if it opens a route through enough positive cells. Because revisits are forbidden, compare the whole detour and preserve access to the destination.

Best for

  • Players who like improving a numerical score through repeated route attempts.
  • Solvers who want numerical route choices without typing answers or reading word clues.

Think twice if

  • Players who want a single mandatory route rather than a best-score challenge.

Judge a detour by its total

A large positive number can be expensive to reach. Suppose a detour adds cells worth -4, +5, and -3. Its extra contribution is -2, even though it includes a +5. That arithmetic is only the first check: the detour must also leave a legal route to the highlighted destination.

Revisiting a cell is forbidden. Before drawing into a narrow part of the board, look for an exit that does not require crossing your existing path. Compare complete routes, including the negative cells needed to reach the positives.

Submitting and revealing have different effects

Control Effect
Submit Records a completed path and updates the best result if the score improves.
Clear Clears the path so you can draw another.
Show prev Displays the previous submission for comparison.
Show answer Reveals the solution and locks the shareable score on first use.

Start with one legal route between the endpoints. Submit it, then change a specific section and compare the new total. This gives you a baseline while you look for a higher score.

Keep Show answer for the point when you are finished competing on that board. The help says it locks the shareable result; reaching Perfect does the same automatically. A revealed route should not be mistaken for an unaided solve.

A streak is tied to today’s difficulty

Tally offers Easy, Medium, and Hard boards, with separate progress for each. The daily reset is midnight in your local timezone. According to the help, any submission on today’s daily board extends that difficulty’s streak. Archive and random boards provide more practice without extending it.

Progress is stored in the browser. The checked game opened without payment or login, but we have not verified cross-device recovery. Its footer names the game without identifying a creator.

This is a separate game from Tally at tally-game.com. That entry asks you to group numbers into sums of ten. Here you draw one path between marked endpoints and try to maximize its sum.

How to play

  1. Choose a difficulty and connect the two highlighted endpoints with one continuous path.
  2. Move only horizontally or vertically, never revisit a cell, and include each visited number in the total.
  3. Submit a completed route, then try another if you want to improve. Revealing the answer locks the shareable score.

Before you play

Questions before you play.

Is Tally at thetally.app the same as tally-game.com?
No. Thetally.app maximizes a path sum between endpoints. The separate tally-game.com entry connects groups of numbers that sum to ten.
When does the daily Tally board change?
The official help says new boards arrive at midnight in your local timezone. Easy, Medium, and Hard have separate daily progress.
Does revealing the Tally answer affect sharing?
Yes. The first use of Show answer locks the shareable score. A Perfect result also locks it automatically.
Do archive games extend a Tally streak?
No. The help says a submission on today's daily board extends the streak for that difficulty; archive and random puzzles do not.
