Verified round model
How a round of GeoStats works.
Objective, input, feedback and stopping condition checked 29 September 2026.
Objective
Maximize the combined rank-based score by assigning a different country to every statistical category.
Your move
Select a country and a category, with a remove control for revising assignments before submission.
What changes
After submission, the results show placement, points and reported values for each match, plus the optimal allocation.
Round end
Fill all category slots and submit the board to lock a result that is saved in the current browser.
Why it stands out
Compare the units, then allocate countries across the whole board.
The country bank is shared across the categories, so deciding where to spend a strong country matters alongside knowing the statistics. Extra countries in the higher levels add a selection decision.
Best for
- Geography players interested in comparing countries beyond their flags and positions.
- Players who enjoy choosing between competing uses of a limited set of answers.
Think twice if
- Players looking for a map-location game or a puzzle with very little reading.
One country, competing uses
GeoStats gives you the categories up front. Before making assignments, read the unit under each one: a total, a percentage and a per-person measure ask different questions. A large population can help in an absolute-count category without making that country the strongest choice for a rate.
Choose a country and then its destination category. Used countries leave the available bank, and a remove button lets you reconsider a match before submitting. The practical question is not just which country looks strongest in isolation, but where that country helps the board most.
Three board sizes
| Level | Countries available | Matches required |
|---|---|---|
| Scout | 4 | 4 |
| Adventurer | 6 | 4 |
| Expert | 8 | 6 |
Scout requires a full allocation. The other levels leave two countries unused, so eliminating weak choices becomes part of the puzzle. First place in a category earns 100 points, measured against the countries on that board rather than a worldwide ranking. Lower placements earn fewer points. The official rules describe one highest-scoring arrangement for each board.
Read the result, not just the score
The tested Scout round finished with 400/400. Its result showed each selected country’s rank, points, reported value and data year or dataset label, followed by the optimal allocation. Ranking controls offer a way to compare the board’s countries after submission. Figures can refer to different years and measures; this check did not independently audit the underlying datasets.
The game saved the result in the current browser without requiring an account. It separately offered sign-in for history and a Share score control. Mobile interaction, archive access and cross-device history were not tested. The rules state that all three levels receive new daily boards, but the exact reset time remains unconfirmed.

Before you play
Questions before you play.
- Do you have to use every country?
- Scout uses four countries for four matches. Adventurer uses four of six countries, while Expert uses six of eight. You cannot reuse a country.
- How are GeoStats matches scored?
- A country is ranked against the other countries on that board for the chosen category. First place earns 100 points; lower ranks earn fewer. The total adds the match scores.
- Do you need an account to play GeoStats?
- No account was needed to complete the tested Scout board. The result was saved in the browser; the results page separately offers sign-in for history.
Source ledger
The evidence behind this page.
An anonymous desktop browser completed a Scout board, inspected its result and opened Adventurer. Rules, country counts, assignment controls and access were checked; reset timezone, mobile play and independent statistical accuracy were not established.
